The TROY project is a Cooperative Research Project (CRAFT) within the Framework Program 6 of the European Commission.
The aim of TROY Project is to develop an innovative diagnosis system, based on an Endoscope Ultrasound Capsule (EUC), to be used as a first line exam for investigation of diseases in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, such as cancers, Crohn’s disease and ulceration.
The Ultrasound Endoscope Capsule will support the diagnoses procedures in the early detection of cancers. The TROY project will indirectly promote the prevention and early warning of superficial cancer and premalignant precursor lesions in the GI tract.
Unlike conventional endoscopes the TROY system does not involve tube insertions, and thus causes neither discomfort to the patients, nor requires anaesthesia in the throat. The EUC is carried through the GI by the peristaltic movements of the stomach and intestines, and during this journey collects, processes and transmits ultrasound data that later allows to construct 3D images of the GI tract.
